Welcome to the Centre of Research Excellence in Primary Health Care Microsystems

This Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute (APHCRI) Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) was established in early 2011 and is funded by APHCRI for four years to address primary health care quality, governance, performance and sustainability issues identified within the national health reform agenda. This CRE, incorporating the clinical microsystem approach, will investigate improved models in regional governance and e-health, effective multidisciplinary teamwork, and primary care performance and accountability.

Recent Highlights

  • Mater Health Services has been awarded $7,106,000 for the next 12 months by the Department of Health and Ageing (DOHA) to implement an eHealth site under its Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record Program (PCEHR). This APHCRI Centre of Research Excellence will assist with the evaluation of the maternity PCEHR to understand the benefits of this approach, particularly for women from marginalised and indigenous backgrounds.   • Centre of Research Excellence was officially launched on 12th July 4:30-5:30pm at Custom's House.

  • Professor Brian Mittman international visiting fellow – conducted a workshop on Implementation Science 9th August 2011. The Master Class featured a lecture and small-group sessions covering: Overview of implementation science and its policy and practice foundations, role of implementation research in the broader health research pipeline, guidance in applying social/behavioural science theory and pragmatic considerations to design, successful implementation programs, research approaches, designs and methods for studying implementation processes and evaluating implementation programs
  • International linkage and exchange – In April 2011 Professor Claire Jackson, Professor James Dunbar and Caroline Nicholson attended the 'International Learning about Improving the Value and Effectiveness of Primary Care' (I LIVE PC) 7-country conference, hosted by The Robert Graham Centre, Washington DC (USA) for the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
